With the biggest move to this point in the offseason and what will likely be the biggest move regardless of what happens going forward, the Yankees have no solidified their lineup as one of the most feared in the league. The addition of Giancarlo Stanton will send shivers running down opponents necks as they will now have to face the trio of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez. Let us not forget the likes of Didi Gregorius, Greg Bird and the rest of this Yankee lineup either.
Despite the acquisition of Stanton being such a huge headline, the biggest takeaway may be the haul that the Marlins got in return. Now this is not to say that Starlin Castro is a poor player, or the prospects Jorge Guzman and Jose Devers won’t pan out. It is just that the caliber of the player that Stanton is, should warrant a bigger return. There could also be arguments that the return was just right due to the size of the contract that Stanton brings along with him to the Bronx.
Regardless of what you think about the trade and the terms of the trade. One thing is now certain, the Yankees will contend in 2018. Now, if they can muster some more magic up and pickup a top of the line pitcher this offseason, we are likely seeing the top team in all of the Major Leagues comes Spring Training.
