Arizona Diamondbacks Free Agent Preview

Player Name Position Comments
Chris Iannetta C Ianetta signed a two year deal with the Rockies to back up Jonatha Lucroy. Ianetta will likely see more playing time as he was blocked by Jeff Mathis and Chris Hermann on the Diamondbacks roster.
J.D. Martinez OF Martinez will be one of the most sought after free agents on the market this offseason. The Diamondbacks will likely be pursuing him as his bat would sorely be missed in the middle of the lineup.
Fernando Rodney RP At the age of 40, it does not look like Rodney has much gas left in the tank but if the desire to pitch another year is there, plenty of teams are looking for bullpen arms. A reunion with Arizona is unlikley however.
Jorge De La Rosa RP De La Rosa is a solid left hand arm that can eat up some innings as he was once a starter. He is getting up there in age, but he should see some interest coming his way this offseason.
Adam Rosales 2B Rosales hit just .225 last season over 105 games. With that type of production you likely won’t get too much focus put on you. However, a team looking for some veteran bench bats may throw a spring training invite his way.
Gregor Blanco OF The 34 year old had a solid season mainly coming off the bench for Arizona in 2017. It would be no surprise to see him be rewarded with a one or two year deal to keep him on the bench.
Hank Conger C Conger was miserable at the plate in 2017 and with Ianetta already on his way out, Conger is likely going to follow suit. It will be interesting to see where he lands if any team is willing to give him another chance.
J.J. Hoover RP The hard throwing righty is coming off a season in which he pitched to the tune of a 3.92 ERA with 54 K’s over 41.1 IP. Hoover is arbitration eligible and will likely take whatever the Diamondbacks throw his way.
David Hernandez RP Hernandez is another hard thrower that has seen his best days come and go. However, that is not to say he cannot be effective. More of a one inning max guy nowadays, Hernandez should be able to catch on with a team this offseason.
Connor Owings OF Owings makes this list for one reason and one reason only. The fact that both of his brothers played for the Diamondbacks. They may give him another minor league, but it is more than likely he will be searching for a team to take on his services.
Brian Matusz RP It seems the Diamondbacks assembled a bullpen full of castaways last season as Matusz is yet another arm that has seen his best days pass. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2016 where he had a 14.00 ERA for the Orioles. It is unlikely he sees any green this offseason.
Josh Thole C Thole has proven to be an effective defensive backup throughout his days in the majors. With plenty of teams looking for a solid veteran this offseason, Thole who hasn’t played since 2016 could be on their radar.
