Atlanta Braves vs Detroit Tigers
Freddie Freeman – 2-for-3 with 3 RBI
Freeman seems to be coming into form just as planned as he had a successful day at the plate. He drove in 3 runs on the day and is already showing glimpses of what Braves fans can expect on a nightly basis.
Adonis Garcia – 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI
It looks like the Braves are showing some confidence in Garcia to be their everyday third basemen in 2017. With days like today he is backing up management as he is showing no ill effects at the plate.
Andrew Romine – 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI
Romine replaced Nick Castellanos in this game and showed some nice poise at the plate. The bulk of his playing time will likely come off the bench in 2017 so production like today will be a nice addition to the Tigers bench.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs Toronto Blue Jays
Marcus Stroman – 2 IP with three strikeouts
Stroman got the start in this game and showed his arm is almost at 100% for the regular season. He pitched two perfect innings fanning three as he gets prepared to lead this Jays staff in 2017.
Clay Holmes – 2 IP with four strikeouts
Holmes is still in the running for a spot on the opening day roster and with a few more outings like this one could put in his name high on the list as bullpen depth. We still have a ways to go in the Spring but Holmes is making his name known early on.
Miami Marlins vs Minnesota Twins
Tyler Moore – 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI
Moore picked up the start at 1B in this game and made some noise at the plate hitting his second long ball of the spring. He still has some work to do to make it on the big league club but power doesn’t come easily in this league and a power bat off the bench is needed on all teams.
Byungho Park – 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI
Park is known for his big bat over at first base and so far this spring he has been showing off the power swing. He has two dingers early on and is looking to build off his 12 homers in 2016.
New York Yankees vs Baltimore Orioles
Thairo Estrada – 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI
Estrada is getting some looks over at 2B this spring despite being a long shot to make the big league club. However, a few more homers like his today and he will put some confidence in the Yankees minor league depth.
Jonathan Schoop – 1-for-2 with a home run
Schoop made his entrance known today as he knocked a homer out of the stadium. His spot is all but locked up at 2B for the Orioles and he looks to build off his successful 2016 campaign.
Jose Martinez – 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI
Martinez manned 1B for the Cards in this game and made his mark on the game going deep twice. The 28 year old does not have much big league experience yet but could make a run for a roster spot with an impressive spring showing.
Brian Johnson – 2.2 IP with three earned runs and four strikeouts
Johnson got roughed up a bit in this one but was still able to fan four through 2.2 innings. His resume does not bode well for him to make the big league squad but he will get thrown out into action throughout the spring to showcase his talent.
Tampa Bay Rays vs Philadelphia Phillies
Corey Dickerson – 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI
Dickerson is known for his offensive prowess at the plate and showed that going deep in this one. He picked up the start at DH and should also get some time in the outfield this spring.
Shane Peterson – 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI
Peterson is trying all he can to catch on with a team as he is already 28 years old with minimal big league experience. He should get enough time this spring for scouts to fully evaluate his potential.
Maikel Franco – 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI
Franco has been on a tear to start the spring as he launched his third home run in this one. The 24 year old is making his stake at one of the top young hitters in the league and is showing he capable of 30+ home runs.
Washington Nationals vs St. Louis Cardinals
Trea Turner – 1-for-3 with a home run
Turner put in a remarkable first season in the big leagues and scouts are already preparing fans for a potential MVP caliber player. He has shown early on in his career the ability to hit for power along with being a terror on the base paths.
New York Mets vs Houston Astros
Asdrubal Cabrera – 1-for-3 with a home run
Cabrera is starting off the spring showing that his 2016 power performance might not have been a fluke. Cabrera has plenty of the protection in this Mets lineup so 20+ dingers is not out of the question for him heading into 2017.
Wilmer Flores – 1-for-3 with a home run
Flores got the start at 1B for the Mets in this game and is likely going to be one of their top pieces off the bench in 2017. With no clear cut position for him to get time at, the Mets will look to play him all over the field this spring to be prepared for any situation during the regular season.
Rafael Montero – 2 IP with four strikeouts
The Mets have more pitching then they know what to do with heading into 2017 but the more the arms the merrier they have learned after injuries last season. Montero once touted as a top prospect has had his struggles in the big leagues but he is looking to get back to form and be a nice piece in the bullpen.
Michael Feliz – 2 IP with three strikeout and one earned run
The 23 year old RHP may still need some time to develop in the minors before making an impact at the big league level but he is showing early on this spring he might be ready for the task. He struck out three over 2 innings in this outing and is in line for more innings this spring.
Seattle Mariners vs Kansas City Royals
Jean Segura – 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI
Segura was a nice pickup for this Mariners team as they look to make the jump to playoff contender this season. Segura has had his struggles at the plate throughout his young career but looks like he is slowly putting it all together. With a strong spring showing, Segura could show other teams that the Mariners knew exactly what they were doing when acquiring him this offseason.
Paulo Orlando – 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI
Orlando is not really known for his power but rather his fielding ability. However, he is showing that he may have what it takes to be an everyday outfielder for the Royals. He will continue to get everyday reps out in right as the Royals are looking to see his full potential before giving him the starting job.
Salvador Perez – 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI
You are never gonna hit a high average out of Perez but if anything has been consistent for him outside of stellar play behind the plate it has to be his power stride. Perez hit his second home run of the spring as he looks to get ready to put his 2016 behind him and build off a strong spring.
Peter O’Brien – 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI
Despite being a solid power bat, O’Brien was sent packing by the Diamondbacks this offseason. The Royals picked him up hoping he could live up to his potential. He still has a lot to show for the remainder of the spring but at the very least could be a nice bat off the bench for them in 2017.
Chicago White Sox vs Chicago Cubs
Jose Abreu – 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI
Abreu is getting warmed up for what he thinks could be big 2017 showing as he launched his first home run of the spring on Monday. Abreu had a bit of a down year in 2016 going up against his standards but should still be known as one of the top young 1B in the league. Expect a bounce back year out of the young power hitting righty in 2017.
Addison Russell -1-for-2 with a home run
The young stud SS for the Cubs seems to be getting better with age. He is primed for a breakout year in 2017 with a packed Cubs lineup to protect him on an everyday basis.
Willson Contreras – 1-for-2 with a home run
The young Contreras is another name to add to the long list of potential All-Stars for the 2017 Cubs. With Schwarber all but set to be in the outfield this season, Contreras will get the majority of the reps behind the plate for the Cubs in 2017.
Colorado Rockies vs Los Angeles Dodgers
Tony Wolters – 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI
Wolters is looking to put up some big numbers this spring as he looks to lock up the starting catcher job for the Rockies. The catcher position is a bit thin around the league in the power department so 15+ home runs at Coors for Wolters could be a just what the doctor ordered this season.
Milwaukee Brewers vs Texas Rangers
Junior Guerra – 1 IP with two strikeouts
This Brewers team does not expect to contend in 2017 but the arms they have could make some noise if given the right opportunity. Guerra will likely see most of his time out of the bullpen in 2017 as he looks to stick on with the Brewers and not out job hunting yet again.
Oakland Athletics vs San Francisco Giants
Brandon Belt – 1-for-2 with a home run
Belt has been up and down at the plate since joining the big leagues full time as the Giants 1B but still has plenty left to show at the plate. He should have some decent protection around the lineup in 2017 as he looks to eclipse the 20 home run mark.
Matt Joyce – 1-for-3 with a home run
Joyce has been around the league once or twice in his tenure in the Majors and a stop on the way with the Athletics might be just what he needs to rejuvenate his career. He should see plenty of opportunities this spring to play for an everyday spot in the somewhat thin outfield for the A’s.
