Nationals Acquire Derek Norris From The Padres

The Nationals are basically letting it be known that they will not be paying up for Wilson Ramos with the acquisition of Derek Norris. Norris has been solid behind the plate for the Padres over the past two seasons as he hit .233 with 28 home runs and 104 RBI. Let it be known that he is no Wilson Ramos and they will definitely be taking a step back at catcher but it was a sacrifice they were likely willing to make in order to make a run at some of the other big names on the market.

The haul in return for Norris is not much as they had to give up a mid-tier prospect in Pedro Avila who went 7-7 with a 3.48 ERA over 93 innings pitched last season for the Class A Hagerstown Suns.

This will not be the last of the moves for the Nationals as they have very much been in the mix for some big names like Andrew McCutchen and Chris Sale. Though these two guys may be a little of a reach in terms of asking price, it seems like Nationals are trying to take that next step and contend with the likes of the Cubs in 2017.
